Although currently closed for the short winter season, this stunning five star designer den in Mallorca, Son Brull Hotel and Spa, is still a pioneering force on the island for sustainability and a farm to table way of life.
A luxurious but eco-conscious hotel, Son Brull is pioneering a new seed sharing scheme called 'a network for seeds' to help preserve local trees – namely the fragrant lemon, fig, almond and orange.
The seeds are collected and then spread by local environmental activists, helping to maintain Mallorca’s strong, vibrant ecosystem. Son Brull is an 18th century Jesuit monastery sublimely formed into a luxuriously stylish and increasingly sustainable 5* hotel and spa. Their sweeping 40-hectares of land are nestled at the base of a stunning rural valley and the hotel itself looks out over rare 300-year old olive groves.
By maintaining balance in their natural landscape through refusing to use any GMOs or pesticides on their fresh, seasonal produce, and by keeping an organic, sustainable ethos throughout their vegetable garden, land and menu, Son Brull have been certified by the Consell Balear of Agrarian Producció Ecològica, and were also recently awarded the gold distinction for sustainability by Travelife.
They continue to grow heirloom fruits and vegetables and their restaurant menu changes as a result of Head Chef Rafael Perelló’s strolls throughout the garden, gathering what is on offer, noticing what wonders the land has brought forth and considering what might make the guest’s hearts sing.
Son Brull may be currently lying low for winter – like its seeds germinating under the ground – but come spring, with the appearance of green shoots and promise of great things to come, so too will Son Brull come alive, and we highly recommend you book yourself a stay in Mallorca to see it in all its glory. A fabulous luxury hotel with an eco platform, it will warm you heart and soul.
