The Amalfi Coast’s ‘Path of the Gods’

Get your Apollo and Venus vibes flowing, amigos, and step onto the Amalfi Coast’s magnificently named ‘The Path of the Gods’. Sentiero degli Dei is one of Italy’s – and the world’s – most famous coastal walks, and with a name like that, you just know you need to pop on your Hermes shoes and investigate (not heels though, the flying kind).

An easy, two-hour amble for mortals like us, spy the Amalfi Coast’s breath-taking UNESCO World Heritage site in all its glory from a lofty, God-like height, tracking the path from Agerola’s Bomerano near Amalfi to Positano’s pause-worthy Nocelle.

Start your journey in Agerola and prep your picnic with some of the village’s unique fior di latte mozzarella cheese, pairing it with fresh focaccia and some cool cat shades. You’re now officially foodie + Insta ready.

From Agerola, the trail descends gently downhill, marked clearly with white and red ’02’ signs. Drawing you down a former mule path past the rural beauty of isolated farms, ancient crows-nest buildings and quietly grazing goats and sheep, you emerge into Mediterranean coastal panoramas scented with heather and rosemary on the breeze.

Gaze over the heavenly splendour of the Amalfi Coast and the famed island of Capri, usually only spied from a boat, and should you wish, trot down 300 steps to the Arienzo beach where you can indulge in this same sight while floating elegantly in the sea, Hermes’ shoes tossed casually aside. Admittedly not for the faint-hearted or those with vertigo, Italy’s Sentiero degli Dei is surely a must-do for any cool cat who fancies an adventure, ‘Path of the Gods’ style.
