SALZBURG & CO. – THE TOP 4 HOTELS

Discover Austria and her burgeoning collection of art museums, theatres, festivals, cathedrals and seductive cities, none more so than Salzburg, not only the home of Mozart, but a hotbed of old meets new and where youthful creativity is redefining Salzburg’s cultural heritage.  Salzburg is also the gateway to the stunning landscapes of Salzburgerland – expect snow capped mountains, wintery sports, lakes and delicious foods  –  all within easy reach of the city.

We have picked you out 3 destinations that capture the flavour of this region of Austria  –  enjoy the spectacle that awaits you.

Salzburg

The Arthotel Blaue Gans situated opposite Festival Hall in the city of Salzburg is the First Art Hotel in Salzburg. Housed in Salzburg’s oldest inn and dating back 660 years, the Baroque architecture of the Blaue Gans is adored by owner Andreas Gfrerer, describing himself as wanting to live in the present not the past. As a result Gfrerer has imbued the old stone walls of the hotel with modern design and contemporary art.

The rooms enjoy clean lines and are minimally furnished as if to allow the structure of the building to tell its own story. The ornate ceilings and Baroque touches provide elemental glamour while many of the spaces have been shaped with age gifting it a timeless lived-in feel. The vibe in intimate with much acclaimed dining options  – insanely popular with the locals too,  however perhaps the real reason people stay here is to lap up the ever changing art collections and the warm, naturalness of the hotel.

Goldegg am See

Just a few hours from Salzburg is the perfect “escape to the mountains” and Hotel Der Seehof in Goldegg; a literary hideaway where art exhibitions are held in The Helmut Suite and where the never completed Suhrkamp Library provides a haven for artists and writers. Located in the Salzburgerland Alps the lakeside hotel has been an integral part of the hamlet for 300 years with the same family holding ownership for generations.

Guests enjoy private access to the Moor Lake, only a few short steps away from the hotel. Enjoy an early morning swim, a game of golf and then settle down to read that book you have been longing to read in the Suhrkamp Library. The interiors of this effortlessly chic little hotel are white in essence but accented sharply with dashes of bold colour which serve to surprise and energise. While design aesthetics focus in on comfort, Der Seehof feels more like a relaxed, happy and welcoming home. You must try the freshly caught trout caught directly from the lake – to die for.

Bad Gastein

In Austria, the Miramonte Hotel & Aveda Spa and sister hotel, Haus Hirt are not to be missed. Evocative of high drama on the mountains, Miramonte enjoys lavish interiors and a makeover to die for, while Haus Hirt's eclectic yet sophisticated interior design could well be part of a glossy mag centre-spread.

Choose one of Miramonte's 36 rooms and let yourself be cosseted by the 60’s Mad-Men vibe. Smart, stylish and always sophisticated, where relaxation is high on the agenda. With a focus on natural, tactile textures in Haus Hirt you’ll find yourself cocooned in an alpine wood glow, warm boltholes with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Adventure seekers enjoy night sledding and winter hiking, while skiiers make the most of the piste, encompassing 4 large areas of skiing overlooking The Hohe Tauern National Park. Miramonte Alpine Spa invites guests to take to the The Gastein Thermal Waters, or unwind in the sauna and relaxation room before enjoying a makeover by Aveda Cosmetics. The Miramonte evokes glamour without the pretension.
